SENIOR VET NURSE

Looking for your DREAM VET NURSING job? We are on the hunt for a new nurse superstar to join our team! With a diverse role across 3 of our locations, the position has hands on responsibilities running consults, overseeing hospital operations, assisting in surgery and assisting at our new large animal hospital. Cert II or IV qualifications (or equivalent experience) will be highly regarded. This opportunity offers an attractive remuneration package and a supportive work/life roster. The position is full-time (attractive 4 day week) and a 1 in 4 weekend shift. Responsibilities will include

  • Overseeing hospital and day patient treatment and procedures.
  • Surgery patient care (including anaesthetic monitoring).
  • Blood sampling, catheterisation and in-house diagnostic testing.
  • Consult nurse duties including client education, assisting the veterinarians with consults and billing.
  • All basic veterinary nurse duties including cleaning, surgical instrument sterilisation, upholding WHS protocols and patient handling.
  • Assisting with reception duties, including taking phone calls, greeting and discharging patients/clients and payment handling.
  • Assisting the Large Animal Vets with appointments and callouts (in a rotating roster).

 

Work Hours

  • Full time hours between 8am and 5.15pm weekdays – attractive 4 day work week!
  • Saturday rotation roster (usually 1 in 4 weekend rotation) from 8.30am till 2pm
  • Paid nurse on call roster (usually 1 night per week and 1 in 5 weekends) plus a high remuneration package for any callouts attended.
  • Continued education allowance

 

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in small or mixed animal practice
  • Certificate II or IV in Veterinary nursing (or similar qualification)
  • A genuine love for animals and outstanding animal handling practices
  • Strong ability to work in a cohesive team environment as well as independently
  • Exceptional work ethic and ability to show initiative
  • Quick learning skills and ability to work effectively in emergency/high pressure situations
  • A high priority approach to patient and client care/customer service
  • Great verbal and written communication skills
  • Good skills with computer software including MS Office
  • Effective time management and organisational skills

 

Desired Selection Criteria

  • Previous experience with veterinary specific systems including RXWorks and Smartflow software systems

 

About the Clinics

Emerald – 61 Hospital Road

This is the main small animal hospital location. It is a new, purpose built clinic featuring 4 consult rooms, double surgery, separate dog and cat ward, isolation room, vet stations and open plan treatment area. It is renowned for practicing high quality medicine and surgery including orthopaedics. It has state of the art diagnostic equipment with a huge and diverse caseload.

 

Blackwater – 16 Blain Street

This is a satellite clinic in Blackwater that is open 3 days per week. It is a newly built practice with all the bells and whistles, run by a small, fun team. Here, our experienced vets have the independence to work their daily caseload how they want. Travel to and from Blackwater is included for these shifts (from Emerald).

 

Large Animal Hospital & Breeding Centre (including mobile vet) – 221 Talafa Road, Emerald

This brand new large animal hospital and breeding facility opened in September 2024 and features a purpose built hospital with top of the line diagnostic equipment, crushes, stables and paddocks on 70 acres of rural bliss. Here we offer cattle and equine ambulatory services, equine breeding services, bull and pregnancy testing. We also have 2 fully equipped mobile vet trucks that travel to clients and patients across Central Queensland.

 

About Emerald

Located about 2.5 hours west of Rockhampton, Emerald is a large rural town with a population of about 13,000. Emerald is renowned for its mining and agricultural resources. Emerald is the largest town in the Central Highlands region and services many of the other local townships. With 3 shopping centres, cinemas and close proximity to Lake Maraboon, Carnarvon Gorge, and Gemfields region and the beach (only 3 hours away), Emerald doesn’t seem as rural as it sounds. With a community of friendly people, many sporting and recreational opportunities and a high number of community events, Emerald is a fantastic place to live.
